PHOENIX — Normal operations on the North Rim of Grand Canyon National Park will transition to day use only on Nov. 1.
During this time, the Visitor Center, Backcountry Office and Campground Kiosk will be closed and the entrance will be unstaffed. Fees will be collected by an automated machine.
Staff will be present on the North Rim, but visitors exploring the area should be prepared to be self-sufficient as resources will not be as readily available due to the closures.
Packing enough water, food and other essentials to stay warm must be ensured since replenishing supplies will be difficult with reduced staff and facilities.
Campers can still stay overnight but must purchase backcountry permits through the South Rim Backcountry Information Center. Vehicles will not be permitted on the campground after Nov. 1.
Either on Dec. 3 or after the first snow storm of the year, the gates on Highway 67 to the North Rim will be closed.
The self serve gas station will remain available, but purchases will only be permitted with credit or debit cards.
The North Rim Lodge Gift Shop will be open through Nov. 30., while normal operations and services will reopen on May 15.
Services on the South Rim and Inner Canyon remain open year round.
