PHOENIX — A woman was arrested Monday after she allegedly attempted to hit a police officer with her vehicle in the Chandler High School parking lot last month.
Sgt. Daniel Mejia with the Chandler Police Department said in an email that 28-year-old Jessica Ann Vaughn was charged with one count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, one count of aggravated criminal damage, four counts of hit-and-run and one count of theft.
According to court documents, Vaughn was contacted by an unnamed police officer in the parking lot of Chandler High School on Sept. 21.
She attempted to flee the officer and the parking lot but instead lost control of the vehicle and drove through a fence, hitting several cars.
In an another attempt to flee the scene. Vaughn then “drove…in the direction of the fully uniformed officer, which was the officer who originally contacted her.” The officer was able to get out of the vehicle’s path.
The car, a 2013 red Chevrolet Impala, was found about 1.5 miles from the school with damage consistent with the damage described by the officer involved.
Vaughn later told police that she fled from the officer because she believed she had a warrant out for her arrest for violating her probation and did not want to go to jail.
Vaughn also told police that she was in possession of several items that she believed were stolen, including two laptop computers and a Michael Kors purse.
She said the items were given to her to sell, as she did not have any money. Officers found that the items were stolen on Sept. 21 from a home just miles north from the school. Vaughn denied committing the burglary.
It was not immediately known why she was on the high school campus in the first place.
