Gov. Ducey supports Flake’s request to delay vote for FBI investigation

PHOENIX — Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey said he supports Sen. Jeff Flake’s request to delay the final vote for Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh until the FBI can further investigate sexual misconduct claims against him.
“Let’s get the FBI asking the questions that I think we want to have asked and then let’s vote,” Ducey told KTAR News 92.3 FM’s Mac & Gaydos Friday.
Ducey said that after watching snippets of Thursday’s hearing, he finds accuser Dr. Christine Blasey Ford and Kavanaugh to be “two very credible people.”
He also said he believes them both to be “victims” of a process that was not handled well.

Based on the testimonies, Ducey said he can see a need for more information about Ford and two other women’s accusations of sexual misconduct before senators vote, especially considering the result could be a lifetime appointment.
Ducey said he knows that Sen. Flake is “trying to the best of his ability” to follow his conscience.

“I haven’t talked to Jeff Flake during this process but I know Jeff Flake and I can tell by the look on his face he is agonizing, and I believe he’s really agonizing over this process,” he said.
Ducey said he hopes the conclusion of an FBI investigation can help senators make their decision in a more bipartisan way.
“I can’t think of a process or a time in Washington, D.C., that I’ve seen it so divided and so hot, and so much anger and uncertainty,” he said.
