WARSAW, Poland (AP) – A minibus carrying Polish coal miners and a truck have collided in Poland, killing eight people and injuring 10 others.
Polish lawmakers held a minute of silence on Thursday for the victims of the road accident, which occurred late Wednesday near Zywiec, a town in southern Poland near the border with the Czech Republic.
The all-news station TVN24 reported Thursday that some of the injured remain in critical condition and that doctors are trying to save their lives.
An official with firefighters, Marek Tetlak, said seven of the victims were killed on the spot and one died later in a hospital.
Among those killed was the driver of the minibus, which was carrying coal miners home after a shift.
The driver of the truck, which was transporting timber, survived.
