PHOENIX — Two Peoria policemen were involved in a fatal shooting Monday night.

According to Peoria Police, officers were dispatched to a Walmart near Peoria and 83rd avenues for a shoplifting call.

After officers located 20-year-old Michael John Stout, he allegedly produced a gun and fired at officers as they began exiting their vehicle.

Police said the suspect fired multiple rounds and hit the officers’ car. One officer fired a round at the suspect from outside the car, while the other officer fired four rounds from inside the car, through the windshield.

The suspect was hit and taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition. He died from his injuries Tuesday morning.

Police said they recovered the gun Stout had used and connected it to a vehicle burglary reported earlier Monday.

Police are investigating the incident. Both officers were wearing activated body cameras at the time of the shooting.
