DUBLIN (AP) – The Irish Defence Forces says its bomb squad has safely defused two homemade bombs left at Dublin homes.
Police blamed drug dealers for planting the bombs at two homes in the Dublin districts of Crumlin and Walkinstown.
The bombs coincide with heightened bloodshed among feuding criminal gangs in Ireland. Four people have been shot to death this month alone.
One gang’s senior lieutenant, responsible for collecting payments, was killed in his suburban home March 6 along with a Lithuanian man. The next day, the remains of two Dublin heroin addicts were found in a burned-out car on the Irish border. Both men had been shot through the head.
An army bomb-disposal expert suffered minor wounds Monday when a bomb left under a car in Cork exploded before he could defuse it.
