LONDON (AP) – Lawyers for a British man with locked-in syndrome who failed in a bid to overturn his country’s euthanasia law say he has died at home.
Tony Nicklinson died Wednesday his lawyers at Bindmans LLP said in a statement. They offered no details on the circumstances of his death.
Nicklinson suffered a stroke in 2005 that left him unable to speak or move below his neck. He required constant care and communicated mostly by blinking, although his mind had remained unaffected and his condition was not terminal.
In January, the 58-year-old asked the High Court to declare that any doctor who killed him with his consent would not be charged with murder.
Last week, the court turned down his appeal, a decision which Nicklinson said had left him “devastated and heartbroken.”
