Gilbert police searching for man accused of attempting to lure girl

PHOENIX — Officials with the Gilbert Police Department are asking the public to be on the lookout for a man accused of attempting to lure a young girl to his vehicle.
Sgt. Darrell Krueger, a Gilbert police spokesman, told KTAR News 92.3 FM that the man allegedly stopped a pre-teen girl in the area of Lindsay and Williams Field roads on Sept. 13 and asked her to get in his van to assist her mother.

When the man could not recall the family password, Krueger said the girl became suspicious and ran back toward her home.
The man was described as a white male with medium build in his 30s. He has a “distinct injury” on his right ear that might have been caused by a gauged earring or a scar. He was driving a white van.
Krueger said police want to track down the man to speak with him and make sure the girl is “reporting accurately.” There are no criminal charges being pursued at this time.
Editor’s note: The Gilbert Police Department said on Sept. 25 that the incident was a “false report” and that there was no risk to the public. KTAR News 92.3 FM reached out to the department but has not yet heard back.
