PHOENIX — A patrol volunteer with the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office helped keep a dog safe and sound, alerting the driver of a semitrailer that the animal was still tied to the back of the moving vehicle.
In the daytime dash-cam video posted Monday on Facebook, a semi was heading out of a gas station parking lot in Ash Fork on Sept. 8.
As the semi pulled around toward a busy Interstate 40, a dog leashed to the bumper of the truck came into view, running to try to keep up with the big rig.
The unidentified patrol volunteer began honking his horn and flashing the car lights, the post read, and turning on the siren.
The truck driver stopped a few yards away near the gas station’s entrance/exit as the volunteer pulled alongside him.
Security footage showed the volunteer parked to block traffic while the truck driver untied the dog.
The grateful owner thanked the volunteer.
The department said no charges would be filed against the truck owner, who said he’d been distracted and forgot about the dog.
Patrol volunteers generally help with traffic control, provide backup, transport prisoners and process paperwork, among other duties. The program launched in 1995.
