PHOENIX — The two women who are currently vying for an open Senate seat in Arizona are already debating when to debate.

U.S. Rep. Kyrsten Sinema, who first proposed a series of debates earlier this month, said in a statement on Friday that she would do so on Oct. 15 in Phoenix and Oct. 16 in Tucson.

“There are real differences in this election and it’s time for voters to judge for themselves which approach is best. It’s time to debate,” Sinema said.

“These debates should focus on the issues Arizonans care about most, not petty attacks and political distractions,” she added.

“I’ve asked each of the hosts to focus on the issues that matter to Arizona families, like making sure we can access affordable, quality health care. I look forward to meeting Congresswoman McSally on the debate stage.”

But U.S. Rep. Martha McSally, the Republican candidate for the seat, has not yet committed to any dates.

“We look forward to debating Democrat Kyrsten Sinema and Green Party candidate Angela Green, and have been working with media organizations to identify dates that work for our campaign as well as their campaigns,” spokeswoman Torunn Sinclair said in a statement.

Both McSally and Sinema won their primary races by a wide margin: Sinema took home more than 82 percent of the Democratic vote, while McSally’s lead was a little tighter, at 51 percent.

But the race is so tight polls can’t even agree who’s leading.

An OH Predictive Insights/ABC15 phone survey put McSally ahead of Sinema, 49 percent to 46 percent, while a new Data Orbital poll had Sinema ahead, 46 percent to 42 percent.
