Dominican police: man kills ex-girlfriend, himself

SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic (AP) – Authorities in the Dominican Republic say a man locked himself in a room with his former girlfriend and set it on fire, killing them both.
Police say in a statement that 35-year-old Edwin Figueroa was upset that 24-year-old Miguelina Pacheco didn’t want to get back together with him. They say he sneaked into her parents’ house early Tuesday and went into her room while she slept. Then he set the room on fire.
The victim’s mother told reporters that the couple had been together for eight years but that she broke up with Figueroa five months ago because of his jealousy.
The fire occurred in a neighborhood west of the capital of Santo Domingo.
