PHOENIX — An Amber Alert has been canceled for a 14-year-old girl from Surprise, Arizona.
Aubrey Gardner and 21-year-old Jonathan Carson were located together in Mesquite, Nevada on Sunday. Gardner was reportedly unharmed.
Mesquite police Officer Quinn Averett said Carson was arrested on felony and misdemeanor charges, including battery on a police officer, resisting arrest and obstruction of justice.
He was being held at the Mesquite Detention Center pending an initial court appearance and the naming of a lawyer to his defense.
Investigators were still working to determine the circumstances surrounding Gardner’s disappearance. She went missing around 9 p.m. on Friday.
The Surprise Police Department believed Carson abducted Gardner from her home.
ABC15 reporter John Trierweiler told KTAR News 92.3 FM’s Arizona Morning News on Monday that the pair were located during a traffic stop.
The family, according to Trierweiler, said the pair had been talking over text messages for at least a month before Carson allegedly abducted Gardner. It was not immediately known how they met.
Carson had an outstanding felony warrant for deserting from military service and was reported as possibly being suicidal, per police.
His last known residence was in Sierra Vista.
