Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport adding new route to San Diego area

PHOENIX – Valley travelers are getting yet another flight option, as Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport continues to expand its service.
California Pacific Airlines announced Tuesday it would start a route between the Mesa airport and McClellan-Palomar Airport in Carlsbad, about 35 miles up the coast from San Diego.
“They’re going to be doing service six days a week … and hopefully as demand increases they’ll do additional flights,” Gateway spokesman Ryan Smith told KTAR News 92.3 FM.
Ticket ranges weren’t announced, but a search on the airline’s website showed the flights at $129 each way.

“They do look like they are looking to be as competitive as possible with some of the legacy carriers that fly out of Sky Harbor,” Smith said.
The flights, which last a little more than an hour aboard 50-seat Embraer 145 regional jets, will be available every day but Sunday.

Carlsbad is the third new destination from Gateway announced in the past month.
Low-cost Canadian carrier Swoop recently revealed new service between Gateway and Edmonton, and Allegiant Air said it would add flights from the Mesa airport to St. George Regional Airport in southern Utah.
“The growth out here has been phenomenal, and we’re just excited that more and more people are finding out that Gateway is an easy place to fly into and out of, and we’ll continue to look to add service,” Smith said.
