PHOENIX — An Arizona-based movie theater chain will offer a free screening of a documentary featuring the late Sen. John McCain this weekend, it was announced Thursday.
Amy Caron, a spokeswoman with Harkins Theatres, told KTAR News 92.3 FM in an email that the location at Scottsdale Fashion Square will feature “John McCain: For Whom The Bell Tolls” for free at 4 p.m. Sunday.
Those who are looking to view the screening can reserve tickets at the theater’s box office, she added. They will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.
There are approximately 230 tickets that will be available and, as of Friday afternoon, only about 60 tickets had been reserved.
“John McCain: For Whom the Bell Tolls” first premiered on HBO on Memorial Day.
The six-term senator agreed to take part in the project soon after being diagnosed with brain cancer last year.
HBO said the 81-year-old gave documentary filmmakers “unprecedented access to his daily life in Washington D.C. and Sedona.”
The documentary came on the heels of the release of McCain’s memoir, “The Restless Wave: Good Times, Just Causes Great Fights, and Other Appreciations.”
McCain died on Saturday after a year-long battle with brain cancer.
Two days worth of services honoring the senator were held on Wednesday and Thursday.
Members of the public were able to pay their respects to McCain directly as his body lay in state at the state Capitol in Phoenix on Wednesday, while a memorial service featuring former Vice President Joe Biden, Arizona Cardinals Larry Fitzgerald and others was broadcast on Thursday.
KTAR News 92.3 FM will carry live, uninterrupted coverage of the national memorial service for Sen. John McCain at 7-9 a.m. Saturday.
