PHOENIX — AAA will offer its Tipsy Tow service to Arizonans this Labor Day.
The association said that anyone in the state who wants to ensure a safe ride home for themselves or others can call 1-800-AAA-HELP between 6 p.m. on Sept. 3 and 6 a.m. on Sept. 4.
AAA will provide a free ride home and vehicle tow of up to 10 miles for any driver, including non-members. For a tow beyond 10 miles, drivers will be charged a standard towing rate.
The Tipsy Tow service can only be used to get to a home or hotel–no using the service to bar-hop. The service only provides free towing and does not include other services like flat tire change or gas delivery.
According to AAA, a first-time DUI conviction can cost a driver more than $10,000 in fines, penalties, legal fees and insurance costs.
Michelle Donati, a spokeswoman for AAA Arizona, said bartenders and restaurant managers can use the service to send patrons home safely, and individuals can call the service for themselves or inebriated friends. The service can take up to two people home at one time.
“As Arizonans enjoy summer’s last hurrah, AAA wants to discourage anyone from getting behind the wheel if they have been drinking,” Donati said in a statement. “Tipsy Tow provides a simple solution for getting motorists home safely while making the roads safer for everyone.”
