PHOENIX — Upscale Donovan’s Steak and Chop House has gone out of business in Phoenix after 14 years.

The well-known restaurant at Camelback Road and 31st Street announced the closure in a note on its website.

It is with a heavy heart that we announce our Donovan’s Steak & Chop House in Phoenix has permanently closed. We thank all of you for your support over the last 14 years and encourage you to visit one of our two San Diego locations!

Managing partner Dan Shea said in a statement to the Phoenix Business Journal that “the decision was ultimately made that our Phoenix location would not be sustainable in the long term.”

Donovan’s often was high on lists of best steakhouses in the Valley.

A 2016 review in Zagat’s best Phoenix steakhouses described the restaurant as “a real star in a crowded sky.”

TripAdvisor commenters rated it No. 106 out of nearly 2,700 restaurants in the area.

USA Today’s 10 Best ranked the steakhouse No. 3 in Phoenix.

Earlier this week, DeSoto Central Market food court in downtown Phoenix abruptly closed.

In February, popular Scottsdale steakhouse Don and Charlie’s announced it would eventually shut down to make way for a proposed boutique hotel.

Don and Charlie’s opened in 1981 and has been popular with spring training visitors, baseball managers, coaches and players and locals alike.

No timeline has been given for that shutdown.

We want to hear from you.
