PHOENIX — A former employee at a cremation service in Phoenix was sentenced to more than a decade in prison on Monday for embezzling more than $287,000 from his employer over a one-year period.
Kevin Frasier, the former bookkeeper at Research for Life, was sentenced to sentenced to 11.5 years in the Arizona Department of Corrections, Attorney General Mark Brnovich announced Tuesday.
He was also sentenced to five years of probation with “white-collar terms and computer usage terms” upon his release from prison.
Frasier was hired back in September 2016. According to the Phoenix Police Department, he stole $287,217.10 between October 2016 and November 2017.
Investigators said Frasier issued multiple checks to himself that were never authorized by the business. He would also manipulate the accounting software information relating to some of these checks.
Frasier pleaded guilty one count of fraudulent schemes and artifices and one count of theft.
He had four prior felony convictions dating back to 1986 in both California and Arizona for similar offenses.
