PHOENIX – The DeSoto Central Market, an eclectic downtown Phoenix food court and night spot, announced Monday it was closing immediately.

The market opened in 2015 in a historic 1920s-era building at Central Avenue and Roosevelt Street in the Roosevelt Row arts district.

According to a statement on the DeSoto Central Market Facebook page, new plans for use of the building were “in the works,” but no details were provided.

“Over the years we have helped incubate restaurants beyond the walls of DeSoto as part of its mission and also be creative in hosting various events to bring the community together,” the statement said.

“We appreciate all our customers and the community for supporting us over the years.”

According to the market’s website, the DCM Bar, DCM Burger Joint, ProVisionary deli, Walrus & the Pearl oyster bar, Tea & Toast Co. coffee shop, Adobo Dragon restaurant, RADish juice bar and Moonage jewelry shop had been operating at the location.

The market ran a pet photo contest on its Facebook page Sunday, with a gift card awarded as a prize.
