German intel officials discuss NSA spying with US

WASHINGTON (AP) – U.S. and German officials say their top intelligence officials are meeting in Washington to devise new guidelines on how the allies share intelligence _ including whether they spy on each other.
A spokesman for the Office of the Director of National Intelligence says Tuesday that German and U.S. intelligence officials are meeting this week, trying “to further intensify and strengthen cooperation,” as directed by President Barack Obama and German Chancellor Angela Merkel.
The meetings follow an outcry for an end to surveillance by the National Security Agency of U.S. allied leaders’ communications, revealed in documents leaked by former NSA contractor Edward Snowden.
A German official says they are pushing for new limits on NSA.
The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak publicly on the record.
