PHOENIX — The Scottsdale Police Department said Monday that it was investigating an incident that allegedly involved Houston Rockets guard and Arizona State University alum James Harden.
Officer Kevin Watts with the department told KTAR News 92.3 FM in an email that there was an “ongoing investigation” that “centered around an incident that took place in the downtown Scottsdale” around 2:30 a.m. Saturday morning.
“Mr. Hardin (sic) is listed in the incident, but it is far too early in the investigation to comment on the scope of his involvement,” Watts said.
The incident, which was first reported by TMZ, involved a woman who claimed she was “roughed up” by Harden at the Mint nightclub in Scottsdale.
The unidentified woman told TMZ that she was partying at the club when, she claimed, an unnamed member of Harden’s entourage got into a fight.
When Harden noticed she was recording the fight, the woman claimed he “demanded” that she delete the footage before “grab[bing] her wrist and snatch[ing] her phone before throwing it on the roof.”
The woman also claimed that Harden and a member of his entourage offered her a total of $500 for the phone after Harden threw it on the roof.
But she said she climbed up on the roof and retrieved the phone, which was still recording, after security broke up the fight.
She also said she went to a local hospital, where she was treated for a wrist injury.
