PHOENIX — Nearly 900 people were evacuated from Talking Stick Resort in Scottsdale early Saturday morning due to a power outage.

The outage was caused by the monsoon storm around 2 a.m. and led to flooding damage on the first floor of the building.

First responders then evacuated guests “for safety” and displaced everyone, a Salt River police spokesperson said.

“They are going through there to see the extent of the damage and what’s going on in there,” they added.

“They have done secondary sweeps to make sure everything is clear and everything is safe. At this time they are bringing some of the people back who were displaced, back to the casino to collect their belongings.”

Guests were provided transportation and relocated to nearby hotels at no extra cost.

In a statement, a Talking Stick Resort spokesperson said officials are hoping to have the hotel “fully operational as soon as possible.

“The safety and comfort of our guests is our top priority and we apologize for any inconvenience. We are working through the impact of the storm as quickly as we can,” the statement read.

Via de Ventura and Talking Stick Way were both closed due to the outages.

The casino was set to host the second day of the five-day Arizona State Poker Championship on Saturday.

According to multiple reports on Twitter, all tournament dates will be pushed back by one day.

The event is set to resume on Sunday and now end on Wednesday.

All other events at the resort and casino have been halted for the day also.

We want to hear from you.
