PHOENIX — Twelve people were arrested earlier this month in connection to a drug trafficking organization in the Phoenix area, it was announced Monday.
The Chandler Police Department said the individuals — who ranged in age from 26 to 57 — were allegedly involved in distributing and selling illicit drugs, a 13-month investigation found.
The drugs involved included heroin, methamphetamine, cocaine, marijuana and fentanyl. Detectives also seized seven firearms during the investigation.
The investigation started in May 2017, after the Chandler Police Department’s Narcotics Unit identified a drug trafficking organization that was transporting drugs from the Mexican border to Chandler.
“The Chandler Police Department is committed to working with our community and law enforcement partners to preserve the quality of life in our neighborhoods,” Police Chief Sean Duggan said in a statement.
“Preventing opioid fatalities is a top priority and this collaborative investigation, and subsequent drug seizures, likely saved lives.”
All of the individuals were arrested and booked into the Maricopa County Jail on July 24.
The relationship between the individuals was not made clear.
They have been charged with various felonies, including illegal control of an enterprise, money laundering, conspiracy to commit possession of narcotic drugs, and dangerous drugs for sale.
The Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office, the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office also assisted with the investigation.
