Two banks hit, two different suspects and money taken in both, but only one of them is being called a robbery.

That one takes us to the Bank of America inside the Fry’s at 43rd Avenue and McDowell Road.

It’s Christmastime, just before 2 in the afternoon on Thursday, Dec. 21, 2017, when a guy wearing a Yankees cap walks in.

“He waited in line just like a normal customer and once he approached the teller he passed a note demanding money,” Phoenix Police Sgt. Mercedes Fortune said.

He made a point of not attracting any attention.

Fortune said he took his time and was patient waiting to get to the teller.

Next, the bank heist that wasn’t a robbery.

It happened Tuesday, Jan.20, 2018 at 4 p.m.

“So, basically, the guy goes inside the MidFirst Bank that’s located at 48th Street and Chandler Boulevard. … He walked directly to a teller, reached over the counter and grabbed the stack of money she was counting,” Fortunes said.

Fortune said this heist is being called a burglary because he didn’t use any force, fear or weapon.

That suspect was seen fleeing in a newer white Acura sedan, which had been left running in the parking lot.
