PHOENIX — Get your popcorn ready, Northwest Valley, you’re getting your own film festival. The Phoenix Film Foundation announced that the Peoria Film Festival would debut in the fall.
The Oct. 19-21 event at the Harkins Arrowhead Fountains 18, near the Loop 101 Agua Fria Freeway and Bell Road, will feature screenings of independent movies as well as upcoming studio releases.
It was too early in the programming stages to know what specific movies would play.
“A really healthy mix of your smaller distributors as well as hopefully some larger studio films,” Jason Carney, the festival’s executive director, told KTAR News 92.3 FM on Monday.
The nonprofit Phoenix Film Foundation already puts on the annual Phoenix Film Festival, which returns in April 2019.
“It will be kind of a miniature version of the Phoenix Film Festival. … It should be fun to see a lot of really great independent and art-house films come to the West Valley,” Carney said.
The Peoria festival is planning to show a “best of” selection of movies from its Phoenix sibling, Carney said.
Tickets weren’t yet available, but festival passes will be sold for $75 and single tickets will be $13 per movie.
Festival passes will be good for entry to all films except the opening night premiere event. The passes also will provide a spot in the first seating group for each film.
The festival’s website has information about making donations and volunteer opportunities and will be updated with schedule information.
