Phoenix officer injured in crash identified, remains critical

PHOENIX — The Phoenix Police Department on Friday identified the officer critically injured in a car crash a day earlier as Sean George.
He remained hospitalized in critical but stable condition.
The department and George’s family extended their appreciation for the support they’ve received from the community.
The Phoenix Police Foundation was collecting donations on the family’s behalf.
George was on duty when the accident occurred near Carefree Highway and Cave Creek Road.
The other driver and passenger were transported to a local hospital with minor injuries.
No information has been released on the cause of the crash.
Editor’s note: The Phoenix Police Department said George’s condition had been downgraded to serious condition on Aug. 2. He remained in the hospital.
