PHOENIX — A 13-year-old boy was charged with attempted homicide on Wednesday for allegedly stabbing a 13-year-old girl multiple times in Phoenix earlier this week.
Sgt. Tommy Thompson with the Phoenix Police Department said the incident occurred around 11 a.m. on Tuesday in the area of 41st Avenue and Buckeye Road.
Thompson said police believe the boy, who was not identified because he is a minor, went to the girl’s home with the intention of stabbing her. The pair are neighbors and have known each other for years.
Police believe the boy knocked on the door of the girl’s house and asked her to borrow something from the kitchen after he learned that the girl’s mother was not home.
Thompson said he then stabbed her multiple times on her head and body with a knife.
The girl was able to get away and run for help. She was transported to a local hospital after the incident and her injuries are not life-threatening.
In a later interview with the boy, Thompson said the boy made his intention clear: He wanted to “murder” the girl.
The suspect was detained at the Maricopa County Juvenile Court Center.
Thompson said the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office might consider prosecuting the suspect as an adult because of the serious nature of the crime.
