Border agents arrest 2 in Arizona for alleged attempted meth smuggling

PHOENIX — Agents with the U.S. Border Patrol arrested two people for allegedly attempting to smuggle more than $140,000 worth of methamphetamine through Yuma last week, it was announced Monday.
The unidentified suspects were arrested around 5 p.m. on June 13 after agents sent their 2012 white Chrysler 200 to the secondary inspection area for additional questioning.
A Border Patrol canine detected an odor while the vehicle was in secondary inspection, leading agents to discover 25 packages of methamphetamine — which weighed more than 48 pounds — hidden in the left- and right-side panels of the vehicle.
The drugs in questions were valued at $144,012, Border Patrol agents said.
The suspects only identified as the 38-year-old male driver and 23-year-old male passenger residing in Chandler and Mesa.
