PHOENIX — Phoenix police have located and detained a suspect involved in Sunday’s officer-involved shooting, it was announced Monday.
Sgt. Armando Carbajal, a spokesman with the Phoenix Police Department, said the suspect was located in the area of 27th and Virginia avenues around 9:30 a.m. Monday.
Officers were responding to a call of a suspicious person, who matched the description from the shooting the night before in the area of 27th and Grand avenues.
The suspect was later identified as 29-year-old Erik Lomeli.
Lomeli was not injured in the shooting. The two officers involved — identified only as a 28-year-old female officer and a 52-year-old male officer — sustained minor injuries, but did not need medical attention.
The Sunday shooting occurred as officers attempted to detain Lomeli for allegedly being in possession of drug paraphernalia.
Carbajal said the investigation is ongoing.
