PHOENIX — The southbound lanes of Interstate 17 at Indian School Road have been reopened after previously being shut down down due to a police incident, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation.
The off-ramp at Thomas Road remains closed.
The southbound lanes were first shut down around 6:30 p.m. at Thomas due to an incident involving the Phoenix Police Department.
But further restrictions were put into place at Indian School Road, where traffic was forced to exit.
It was not immediately made clear if the closure of the highway was a result of the active search for a suspect in connection with an officer involved shooting.
There is still heavy backup in the area.
