PHOENIX — Clouds and humidity may keep the high heat at bay in Arizona on Wednesday, but it’s 7-Eleven Day and a free small Slurpee could be just the reward for slogging through this week’s monsoon storms.

For the 16th straight year, the international convenience chain celebrates itself on July 11 (7/11) by giving away one of its most popular items.

Anyone can walk into one of the stores between 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. and ask for the little icy beverage.

For a brief time, Cap’n Crunch’s Crunch Berries will be available as a flavor.

Whatever the flavor, treat seekers in the Valley making the run for the Slurpee will hit the streets on a day that temperatures should top at about 98 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.

After two straight days of monsoon rains, temperatures have dropped to about 10 degrees below normal.

Forecasts put the chance for rain under 30 percent in the Valley between the hours of 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Rain or shine, the 91-year-old convenience-store company expected to hand out around 9 million of the free drinks.

There are 61 stores in Arizona, 26 of them in Phoenix.

Across the country there are more than 7,800 7-Eleven sites.

We want to hear from you.
