PHOENIX — The town of Prescott Valley in northern Arizona announced Monday that it would cancel its Fourth of July fireworks show, making it the fifth northern Arizona city to pull its holiday plans due to fire danger.
Larry Tarkowski, the Prescott Valley manager, decided to cancel this year’s show due to “historic dry conditions, the lack of forecast rain and extreme fire danger through the coming week.”
Instead, this year’s fireworks show will be moved to the town’s 40th Anniversary Pinnacle Weekend on Aug. 25.
The town had been putting on its fireworks shows for 22 years.
But residents will still be able to take in a day of family fun, as all other activities have been moved to the Prescott Valley Civic Center starting at 3 p.m.
Later that same day, Show Low also announced that it would cancel its fireworks show at its annual FreedomFest celebration due to “extreme fire danger.”
“The city is currently under Stage 3 fire restrictions, which prohibits the sale and use of consumer-grade fireworks. Help keep the community and forests safe by following all fire restrictions,” a Facebook post read.
Cave Creek, Flagstaff, Williams and nearby Prescott had previously canceled their fireworks shows due to fire danger or ongoing drought conditions.
There are plenty of towns in the Phoenix-area that have still planned to hold shoot off some fireworks on Wednesday in honor of the holiday.
