PHOENIX – If you’re looking for a new furry friend to join your Independence Day celebration, head to a Maricopa County Animal Care and Control center.
The county shelters are waiving fees for adoptions of adult cats and large adult dogs through July 4.
The free adoptions, sponsored by Best Friends Animal Society, include adult dogs weighing 20 pounds or more and cats at least 7 months old.
Puppies, kittens and dogs with high demand, known as Shelter Super Heroes, are excluded.
Regular fees are up to $300 for canine critters and up to $50 for feline fur balls.
There are two county adoption centers, at 2500 S. 27th Ave. in Phoenix and 2630 W. Rio Salado Parkway in Mesa.
They are open 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekends.
