PHOENIX — Arizona wants to make it easier for residents to obtain a Real I.D. compliant driver’s license.

As of Oct. 1, 2020, standard Arizona driver’s licenses will not be accepted at airports and federal-building security checkpoints.

The person must have either the voluntary travel I.D. or another form of federally-accepted identification, such as a U.S. passport.

The voluntary travel I.D. costs $25.00 for renewals and first-time issues. Per federal law, the credential is valid for eight years.

Doug Nick, a spokesman for the Motor Vehicle Division, said it is much easier now to find offices for this service.

“The voluntary travel I.D. is available at all MVD locations and 37 third-party offices that are full-service providers,” he said.

On the ADOT website, he said, click the motor vehicle link.

“Where it says hours and locations, we separated out those locations that can get you help to get a Voluntary Travel ID.”

Obtaining the voluntary travel I.D. must be done in person. Documentation such as an original birth certificate and proof of current address is required.

We want to hear from you.
