PHOENIX — An Arizona woman was sentenced Friday to 25 years in prison for the road-rage shooting death of an Arizona State University student.

Holly Davis received the maximum sentence for second-degree murder for killing of 19-year-old Yue Jiang. There is no possibility for early release.

Jiang, who was from China, studied business at ASU.

Her family traveled from China to plead unsuccessfully with Judge Warren Granville to reject the deal prosecutors offered Davis, which reduced her charges, including one of first-degree murder.

“This sentence is the maximum penalty for second-degree murder and reflects the senseless nature of the acts of the defendant and the degree of harm that was inflicted upon the Jiang family and all victims in this incident,” Maricopa County Attorney Bill Montgomery said in a news release.

Jiang was shot by Davis multiple times after their cars were involved in an accident in Tempe on Jan. 16, 2016.

Davis, 34, cried in court and said she is sorry and wishes she could take it back or take Jiang’s place.

“The plea agreement from the county attorney’s office demeans my cousin’s life and makes Davis’ meaningless life more important than Yue’s, who would have graduated with honors to become a productive and reasonable citizen and an asset to her community, city, state and nation,” said Katherine Xu, the student’s cousin, during a memorial and news conference on Monday.
