PHOENIX — A Canadian man seriously injured when an SUV killed three other pedestrians in a Phoenix suburb in March has died, according to a TV report.
The Canadian Broadcasting Corporation reported Tuesday that family members confirmed Ronald Doornbos died in a Calgary hospital.
Doornbos, 60, his wife and two other pedestrians were struck by an SUV in Fountain Hills on March 13.
Patti Lou Doornbos, 60, and Karen Bonta, 71, were pronounced dead at the scene. Bonta’s husband, 72-year-old Robert Bonta, died at a local hospital.
Ronald Doornbos suffered a traumatic head injury that required multiple emergency surgeries.
A few weeks after the accident, he was transported in a medically induced coma from Arizona to the Foothills Medical Centre in Calgary.
Doornbos and his wife were on the Saguaro Boulevard sidewalk, approaching Palisades Boulevard, near the town’s landmark Fountain Park, when they were hit by Alex Bashaw’s Ford Explorer.
Bashaw stayed on scene after the crash, and officials at the time said impairment or speed were not believed to be factors.
