PHOENIX — Charges of property damage and disorderly conduct against Arizona Cardinals second-round draft pick Christian Kirk have been dropped, according to the NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
The charges stemmed from an incident in Scottsdale at the Waste Management Phoenix Open where it was alleged that Kirk and a friend were throwing rocks at car windows.
The Cardinals were aware of the charges before drafting Kirk.
Kirk released a statement on Twitter following the news.
From the beginning, I was confident that the facts and the truth would ultimately validate the type of person that I am. I am grateful that was indeed the case. I appreciate all the support I have received while this process has played out, particularly from my family and friends as well as the Cardinals and this community.
“We knew about it,” said Cardinals head coach Steve Wilks said on May 15. “We did our own independent research on it and we felt very good about the information that we received and that’s why we moved forward in really drafting him.”
Kirk played his high school football at Saguaro High School in Scottsdale before attending college at Texas A&M. He was chosen with the 47th overall pick of the 2018 NFL Draft.
He signed a four-year rookie contract with the Cardinals on Thursday.
