We’ve all done it but this time it nearly cost a man his life.
On Friday afternoon, March 30 2018, the victim pulled into a parking lot at 43rd Street and Cactus Road near Paradise Valley Mall and left his car running while he jumped out to drop something in a mailbox.
That’s when a man jumped into the driver’s seat.
Phoenix Police Sergeant Jamie Rothschild said the 66-year-old car owner physically fought with the suspect, trying to get him out.
“The suspect actually accelerated away and when he did that he dragged our victim,” Rothschild said.
As the suspect continued to flee, he hit four other vehicles, disabling the car.
That’s when he took off on foot.
The victim was hurt and the suspect is still on the run, but investigators got a big break.
“Earlier in the day, the suspect was seen shoplifting nearby,” Rothschild said. “We’re fortunate that we now have photo and video of him.”

A violent robbery at a car wash.
It happened on Sunday, April 29 2018, just after 10:00 a.m. near 35th and Dunlap avenues.
Sergeant Rothschild said our victim was sitting in his car at the car wash.
“He was approached by the suspect and the suspect struck him with what we believe were brass knuckles,” Rothschild said.
Then he took the victim’s money.
The suspect was last seen running north into a nearby apartment complex. A surveillance camera in the area got a really good picture of this bad guy.
