Wildfire endangers residents of town in Prescott National Forest

PHOENIX – A limited mandatory evacuation order was issued for residents of a small Arizona town in the Prescott National Forest endangered by a wildfire on Wednesday.
The Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office told anybody off Bluff Road east of Poachers Row in Walker, about 10 miles southeast of Prescott, to gather necessary items and leave the area.
A shelter was set up at Yavapai College in Prescott.
The evacuation order was lifted by 3 p.m.
As of 11:30 a.m., the blaze had consumed 2 acres and was 25 percent contained. One structure, thought to be the home where the fire originated, was lost, according to the sheriff’s office.
Local firefighters responded and stopped the fire’s forward progress.
The cause of the fire was under investigation.
Walker is classified as a populated place, an area that isn’t incorporated but has permanent residents.
Because of dry conditions and gusty winds in the forecast, a red flag fire warning will be in effect Thursday for regions across northern Arizona, including Kingman, Flagstaff and Show Low.
