PHOENIX — A Phoenix man was sentenced to more than 35 years in prison on Friday for the murder of his longtime friend, who was found dead in 2015 after being stabbed more than 70 times.
Matthew Meiner was sentenced to 35.5 years in prison for murdering Matthew McLean, as well as five additional counts of burglary and theft.
He was found guilty of second-degree murder, burglary and theft last month.
McLean was found dead in December 2015 at a residence in the area of 10th and Taylor streets in Phoenix after police responded to a report of “unknown trouble.”
Medical documents at the time showed that McLean was stabbed with an “edged instrument” more than 70 times during an argument.
McLean’s vehicle, a 2008 charcoal-colored Audi hatchback, was also missing when police found his body.
Police did not have a motive for the killing, but both men were involved in selling marijuana.
Meiner was sentenced by Judge Jay Adleman in the Superior Court of Arizona.
