PHOENIX — Lyft announced Tuesday that some of its Phoenix customers will be invited to test a new subscription-based service, as the ride-sharing company looks to position itself as a cost-effective alternative to car ownership.
Lyft Pass, as the test service is being called, will cost $200 for a month and will provide up to $15 off of 30 rides, which would come to a value of $450.
“This is going to be reserved for select high-frequency passengers in the Phoenix area,” Drena Kusari, Lyft’s southwest region general manager, told KTAR News 92.3 FM.
Invitations for the trial run of the service will be sent via email in the next week or so, Kusari said. Those who get the emails can then sign up, at no cost, for a waiting list for the program.
Lyft will notify users on the waiting list when passes become available for purchase. The users then can decide whether to take part in the program and pay the fee.
The pass would not renew monthly while it was being tested.
“The goal is to test this as an alternative to actually owning a car,” Kusari said.
