Man shot during altercation with federal agents in Mesa

PHOENIX — Members of the Department of Homeland Security were involved in a shooting that left one man in the hospital, according to the Mesa Police Department.
Around 1:28 p.m. on Tuesday, the Investigations Division of the department was conducting an investigation in a parking lot at 822 S. Alma School Road in Mesa.
While contacting a subject, an unknown altercation broke out, forcing federal agents to discharge their weapons. One man was was struck and injured, according to Mesa media relations detective Steve Berry.
Mesa Fire and Medical treated and transported the individual to a nearby hospital.
The man’s condition was not immediately known.
No federal agents were injured during the incident and no Mesa police officers were involved in the operation leading up to the shooting.
Mesa detectives were handling the shooting portion of the investigation, according to authorities.
