PHOENIX — Phoenix Police honored the K-9 killed in the line of duty at a ceremonial service on Thursday.
Bane, a three-year-old Belgian Malinois, died on April 17 after entering a home to locate a suspect who had been involved in a high-speed chase and carjacked two vehicles.
“There are those who were born to do this job,” a police officer said during the ceremony. “A good nose, a strong drive and bite, yet sociable as the modern police K-9 has become.
“Bane excelled in all these areas.”
On April 17, a man and a woman caused an accident, drove on light rail tracks and crashed into a house near 27th Avenue and Bethany Home Road. The male hid in the attic of a home.
Bane was sent inside to find him.
The Whitfill Nursery planted a tree as a tribute to Bane, which police and some K-9s stood by during the ceremony.
