Here’s everything you need to know about Pat’s Run this weekend

PHOENIX — Pat’s Run is on Saturday and it may be overwhelming for some first-time runners so here are a few things that you’ll need to know for race day in Tempe.

What is Pat’s Run?

Pat’s Run celebrates the life of former Arizona State University and Arizona Cardinal safety. He volunteered for the military after the 9/11 terror attacks.

Tillman was killed by friendly fire in 2004. He was posthumously awarded the Silver Star and Purple Heart.

Proceeds from Pat’s Run benefit the Pat Tillman Foundation, which provides scholarships for military veterans and their spouses.

How to get there

There will be a number of street closures, including Scottsdale/Rural roads from the Loop 202 to University Drive and Rio Salado Parkway from Mill Avenue to Rural Road. The roads will be closed from 6:30 to 10:30 a.m.

Packard Drive will also closed in both directions between 6th Street and Rio Salado Parkway from 4 p.m. on Friday until 12 p.m. on Saturday.

There are two light-rail stop close to the start of the race. One stop is on Rural Road and University Drive and the other is on Veteran’s Way and College Avenue.

Parking

There are a number of parking options close by, including on Sixth Street near Wells Fargo Arena and on the northeast corner of McClintock and University drives.

Race information

Regardless of how you get there, make sure to show up early because the 4.2-mile race will start at 7:05 a.m. and the event will end at 11 a.m.

The race will begin on Packard Drive near Sun Devil Stadium and take runners north of the Loop 202 before crossing Tempe Town Lake on Mill Avenue and back toward the finish line near Rio Salado Parkway.

There are a number of additional events like the 4.2-mile chair race that kicks off at 7 a.m. and the 0.42-mile kid’s race that starts at 10 a.m.
