PHOENIX — A pregnant woman died after she was allegedly shot by her boyfriend in Phoenix on Tuesday, according to police.

The woman was believed to be seven months pregnant, according to Sgt. Mercedes Fortune, a Phoenix Police Department spokeswoman.

The baby was delivered and was in critical and unstable condition.

Police found the woman, later identified as 29-year-old Chelsee Dennis, around 2 p.m. with a gunshot wound in a car near Seventh Street and Butler Drive, just north of Northern Avenue.

She was transported to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Her 5-year-old child was in the backseat. The child was uninjured.

The boyfriend, who was later identified as 36-year-old Dwight A. Miles, fled the vehicle after the shooting but was quickly found nearby.

He has been charged with premeditated first-degree murder, unlawful possession of a weapon, disorderly conduct and theft of stolen property.

We want to hear from you.
