The left lane in the I-10 eastbound west of Tonopah has reopened, according to an Arizona Department of Transportation tweet.

Big-rig trucks crashed in a chain-reaction accident early Tuesday, killing one driver and injuring another on Interstate 10 East outside of Phoenix.

The wreck, near Tonopah in western Maricopa County about 50 miles from downtown Phoenix, blocked the freeway at milepost 80.

Arizona Department of Public Safety spokesman Kameron Lee said in a email that the first accident was a semitrailer rollover.

A semi behind it managed to stop before hitting the crashed truck, but a driver in another semi couldn’t stop in time. He slammed into the second truck and was killed.

The force from the impact sent the middle truck into the rolled-over rig. The second driver was injured.

As of 2 p.m., traffic was still heavy despite a lane reopening. The right lane was still closed.

Around noon, ADOT tweeted out that drivers should continue to take the detour at milepost 45 to U.S. 60 East to Salome Road to return to the interstate.

We want to hear from you.
