Phoenix ranked in top 20 among best places to live in the United States

PHOENIX — Sunshine, a thriving job market and a relatively low cost of living were the top reasons why Phoenix was ranked as the 19th best place to live in the United States.

The list, compiled by U.S. News and World Report, took the top 250 cities in the country and ranked them using five categories: desirability, value, job market, quality of life and net migration.

Phoenix received its highest score for desirability at 8.2 and its lowest score of 6.6 for value. Overall, Phoenix received a score of 7.0.

Phoenix earned a boost in its categories for many reasons including the vast Phoenix Mountains Preserve, which featured multiple hiking and bike trails, and the dozens of museums scattered throughout the city.

The desirable weather in the winter, spring and autumn seasons, having four professional sports teams and as the home to Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport also contributed to the high score for the city.

Dallas-Fort Worth, San Francisco, and Lexington-Fayette, Ky. all received the same 7.0 overall score as Phoenix.

Austin, Texas received the highest ranking on the list with an overall score of 7.7.

Tucson came in 67th with an overall score of 6.5.
