PHOENIX — Clear your calendars, movie fans: Alamo Drafthouse announced Tuesday that it was planning to open the doors at its Tempe location in May.

The theater chain did not specify an exact day in a post announcing the news. The seven-screen theater — that also has a bar and restaurant — will be located near Baseline and Rural roads.

However, people can get news and pre-opening screenings and events by signing up for Alamo’s free rewards program.

Alamo will be located in a mixed-used development that will revamp a once-thriving plaza.

The theater was looking to hire employees for both the new location and its sister site in Chandler near Arizona Avenue and Chandler Heights Road.

Those applying for a job in Tempe were asked to do so at an off-site location near Baseline Road and Mill Avenue from 8 a.m to 4 p.m. on weekdays. People wanting to work at the Chandler location could submit their application at the theater.

Applications were also being accepted online.

Austin, Texas-based Alamo theaters show a mix of first-run films, classic movies and independent features. Guests are able to order food and drinks from the restaurant or bar during the movie.

Alamo’s first Arizona location opened in 2016 in Chandler despite several development delays.

We want to hear from you.
