PHOENIX — The Globe Police Department handed down criminal charges on four middle school students and a principal in regards to a threat made toward High Desert Middle School on Wednesday.
The four students were charged with interference with or disruption of an educational institution and terrorist threats, while the principal was charged with endangerment.
According to authorities, a threat was made to the school off U.S. Highway 70 near State Route 77 on Wednesday, but no one from the school notified Globe police.
The alleged threat was planned by students and included potential hand guns and homemade bombs. The students have since been temporarily suspended.
“At this time, without giving too many details, because the investigations is so new and ongoing, we’re taking this as a serious threat,” Globe Police Department spokesperson Linda Oddonetto told KTAR News 92.3 FM Thursday. “The school district is fully cooperating with our Globe Police Department to handle the situation.”
On Thursday, a tip was received by the Globe Police Department from a concerned parent after one of her children told her there was a potential threat toward the school.
KTAR News 92.3 FM did reach out to the school, but did not receive any additional information at this time.
