Another I-10 ramp to close for South Mountain Freeway construction

PHOENIX — Drivers in the Phoenix area who reveled in the lack of freeway closures last weekend should not expect the same type of deal this weekend.
Two sections of one Phoenix-area freeway will be closed during the weekend of March 23, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation.
The Loop 202 eastbound will be closed between Higley and Power roads from 10 p.m. on Friday to 9 a.m. on Saturday to allow crews to install message boards, traffic-flow sensors and cameras.
The Loop 202 southbound will be closed between Broadway and Guadalupe roads from 10 p.m. on Saturday to 9 a.m. on Sunday for the installation of traffic-management technology, including traffic-flow sensors.
But drivers in the Phoenix area will also want to make note of another closure: The Interstate 10 westbound on-ramp at 51st Avenue will close permanently at 10 p.m. on Friday.
This closure will allow work to continue on the South Mountain Freeway, an interchange that will connect the Loop 202 with the I-10 in the West Valley.
Drivers should consider entering the highway at 43rd or 59th avenues until the new access road between 51st and 59th avenues is completed in May.
The off-ramp at the same area closed permanently earlier this month.
The I-10 eastbound off-ramp at 67th Avenue will remain closed until the end of March and the on-ramp at the same area was scheduled to close permanently on April 7.
The interchange was expected to be complete by 2019.
