PHOENIX — A $1.3 trillion spending bill that lawmakers planned to advance through Congress soon was “a piece of crap,” U.S. Rep. Paul Gosar of Arizona said Thursday.

“This is a ‘Mayday! Mayday!'” Gosar, a Republican, said on KTAR 92.3 FM’s Arizona’s Morning News, less than three hours before the House passed the agreement.

The Senate was expected to vote in the afternoon, as members faced a Friday deadline before federal funding ran out.

A sweeping $1.3 trillion budget bill substantially boosted military and domestic spending but left behind young immigrant “Dreamers.”

“It’s going to pass,” Gosar said. “There’s a bunch of us … that hate this bill and will vote against this bill. … I don’t expect more than 85 Republicans to vote for this bill. It’s a piece of crap.”

House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wisc.) celebrated the increase in military funding, but members of the conservative House Freedom Caucus, which included Gosar and fellow Arizona Congressman Andy Biggs, were opposed.

Gosar, from Prescott, listed several reason why he considered the omnibus measure a disaster.

“We took away property rights … we armed the arts, restricted our Second Amendment right. Problems, problems, problems through this whole thing.”

Gosar said President Donald Trump should veto the bill.

“I think he was sold a bill of goods.”
